This series of drawings is my first foray into charcoal. I have returned to a favourite subject; the wonder inspired by light in its many forms, and the necessity of paying attention to ethereal moments. Charcoal is particularly well suited to exploring fractals and the effect they have on mood, and a sense of peace in the body. Neuroscience has now documented the many effects that encountering magnificent light has on humans; our heart rate changes, our breathing responds and any number of spiritual experiences are reported. Artists and writers have been absorbed with describing and documenting light for millennia, and yet capturing it in two dimensions remains illusive. This series of drawings are an unabashed celebration of light in the natural world; the works are all made from my own photographs and I hope viewers experience a little of the joy that I have had in hundreds of hours making them.
